Dogecoin

Holding DOGE pays nothing; new coins and fees go only to miners as payment for securing the network.

Riba means interest or any guaranteed increase on a loan. Dogecoin is a proof-of-work network: the only way new DOGE is created is the fixed 10,000 DOGE subsidy paid to the miner who adds each block, together with that block's transaction fees. This is payment for real work (computing power spent to secure the chain), not a return on lending money. The protocol has no staking and no mechanism that pays holders for simply holding coins.

No issuer earns from DOGE: there was no team allocation at launch, and all new coins and fees go to miners for their work.

This criterion asks how the issuer or protocol earns, and whether any of that income is impermissible. Dogecoin has no issuing company. The genesis block created only 88 DOGE, and the code shows no allocation to a company, foundation or team; every coin since has been mined. Miners earn the block subsidy and transaction fees, which are service fees for processing and securing payments. The Dogecoin Foundation sponsors developers and holds the trademarks, but it does not take a share of issuance or fees and says it does not control the software.

The supply rule and code are public and simple, though coins sit heavily in a few exchange wallets and governance is informal.

Gharar is excessive uncertainty or hidden information in a deal. Dogecoin's rules are public in its open-source code: one block a minute, 10,000 DOGE per block with no end date, so anyone can work out future supply; about 5.26 billion DOGE are added each year. There is no pre-mine, no locked insider allocation waiting to unlock, and no party that can mint coins outside the mining schedule. Residual concerns are real but disclosed.

DOGE's own use is payments and tipping; it hosts no lending or gambling applications, though on-chain activity is modest.

This criterion looks at what the asset is actually used for. Dogecoin is a simple payment chain: it has no smart-contract platform, so it does not host lending protocols, casinos or other applications on its own network. Its purpose, as the official site describes it, is sending value cheaply and quickly, and it has a long record of tipping and community fundraising, such as sending the Jamaican bobsled team to the 2014 Winter Olympics and funding water wells in Kenya. It is also held in US spot funds and corporate treasuries.

Fully paid spot DOGE is widely available and can be held in one's own wallet.

This criterion asks whether the asset can be owned in a permissible way. DOGE trades spot, with full payment and delivery, on major exchanges such as Binance and Bybit, and can be withdrawn to a self-custody wallet where the owner controls it directly. It is also held by regulated funds: the Bitwise Dogecoin ETF (BWOW) began trading on 26 November 2025 and holds DOGE itself, and Grayscale's GDOG listed on NYSE Arca the same week. Ownership therefore does not depend on derivatives or leveraged wrappers, even though most trading volume is in futures.
