Liberandum halal verdict

Suitable with care

Not suitableSuitable

Bitget's spot market settles immediately and can be used in a Shariah-compliant way, but it has no Shariah-certified product or token screening. Take extra care: a hack of hot and warm wallets on 24 September 2026 (about $387.5 million) paused withdrawals; as of 27 September 2026 withdrawals are still paused, with phased reopening planned for 28 September to 2 October. Bitget says its Protection Fund covers the loss, but reimbursement is announced, not complete.

Use

  • Spot trading (withdrawals paused)

Avoid

  • Futures, margin, copy trading
  • Earn, Savings, lending
More details

Spot trading on Bitget delivers the coin and the price in the same transaction, which fits the AAOIFI requirement of immediate settlement in currency and asset exchange (Shariah Standard No. 1) and the rules on the sale of commodities in organized markets (Shariah Standard No. 20). Bitget's main business, however, is derivatives: USDT-M and coin-M futures, margin, copy trading of futures, futures grid bots and Earn products (Savings, fixed-term lending, Launchpool). Margin and lending-based Earn involve interest (riba), and futures and leveraged products involve deferred settlement and gharar, so they should be avoided. Bitget has no Islamic account and no product certified by a Shariah board, and it does not screen its catalogue for Shariah compliance, so every coin must be checked on Liberandum. September 2026 hack: on 24 September 2026 attackers compromised a backend system of Bitget's wallet infrastructure and moved funds out of hot and warm wallets; cold wallets were not affected. Bitget first reported $351.6 million, later about $387.5 million after adding Zcash and Tron assets. Withdrawals were paused on 24 September; as of 27 September 2026 they are still paused, with phased resumption announced from 28 September to 2 October 2026. Bitget says user balances are unaffected and the loss falls within its User Protection Fund (over $464 million). This reimbursement is announced but not complete, and covering it would use most of the fund. Until withdrawals are fully restored, keep only the amount you are actively trading on Bitget. Reliability is borderline (5.0/10). Strengths: monthly proof of reserves since December 2022 (issue 46, 135% total ratio in September 2026, now 19 assets) and a Protection Fund held in 5,500 BTC. Weaknesses: proof of reserves is self-published without an auditor; the Terms of Use state that client assets are not segregated on-chain from other users' assets; licences are mostly registrations (AUSTRAC, El Salvador, Georgia, Argentina, Mauritius, South Africa), with no MiCA authorisation (application pending with Austria's FMA) and no VARA licence. Availability: the US, Canada, Austria, France, Germany, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Iraq, Lebanon, Yemen, Afghanistan and others are prohibited.

Bitget does not screen listed tokens for Shariah compliance. Its listing review is a commercial and risk review, not an Islamic finance screen, so each coin must be checked on Liberandum before buying.

Step by step

How to trade halal on Bitget

  1. Open an account and pass KYC

Register on bitget.com (not available in prohibited countries such as the US, Malaysia or Kazakhstan) and complete identity verification in the Verification section of your profile.

  2. Fund without interest-bearing products

Deposit crypto or buy through Buy Crypto (P2P or card, depending on country). Keep funds in the Spot account; do not move them into Earn, Savings, fixed-term products or Launchpool rewards funded by lending.

  3. Check each coin on Liberandum

Bitget does not screen its catalogue for Shariah compliance. Check the coin's halal status on Liberandum before buying and avoid lending, gambling and meme tokens.

  4. Trade only on Spot

Use Trade > Spot with market or limit orders. Do not use Futures (USDT-M, coin-M), Margin, Copy Trading of futures, futures grid Bots or leveraged products, which involve interest, deferred settlement or excessive uncertainty.

  5. Withdraw to self-custody

Move coins you hold long term to your own wallet via Assets > Withdraw. After the September 2026 hack, check the Bitget withdrawal status page first and keep only active trading balances on the exchange.

Reliability in detail

Overall 5.0 of 10

  • Proof of reserves

    7.0

Monthly proof of reserves since December 2022 (issue 46, 17 September 2026) with a Merkle tree and the open-source MerkleValidator; total ratio 135% in September 2026, expanded from 4 to 19 assets. Reports are self-published, with no independent auditor or attestation.

  • Licences

    6.0

Registrations or licences with AUSTRAC (Australia), BCR and CNAD (El Salvador), National Bank of Georgia, CNV (Argentina), FSC Mauritius and FSCA (South Africa). No MiCA authorisation as of September 2026 (Bitget EU application pending with Austria's FMA), no VARA and no US licence.

  • Incident history

    4.0

24 September 2026: about $387.5 million (first reported as $351.6 million) moved out of hot and warm wallets; withdrawals still paused as of 27 September, phased resumption 28 Sept - 2 Oct. Bitget says balances are unaffected and the Protection Fund covers the loss; reimbursement not yet complete. April 2025 VOXEL futures rollback; Philippine SEC advisory (August 2025).

  • Segregation of funds

    1.0

Bitget's Terms of Use state that client digital assets are not segregated on-chain from other users' assets or from assets Bitget holds for business purposes; entitlements are tracked on an internal ledger.

  • Insurance fund

    6.0

Protection Fund launched in December 2022 at $300 million and held in 5,500 BTC, valued daily on Bitget's page; over $464 million on 24 September 2026. Wallet addresses are not shown on the fund page. Covering the September 2026 hack would use most of the fund until it is replenished.

  • Security practices

    5.0

2FA, anti-phishing code and withdrawal whitelists are available; cold wallets were unaffected in September 2026, but the hack came from a compromised backend system of the wallet infrastructure that spoofed transaction data. No current SOC 2 or ISO 27001 certification was confirmed.
