Bybit offers a dedicated Islamic Account, an interest-free sub-account developed with ZICO Shariah Advisory Services and CryptoHalal that is limited to spot trading and spot bots on a selected list of tokens, and it publishes monthly Hacken-verified proof of reserves. Muslim users should trade inside the Islamic Account and stay away from the derivatives, margin and Earn products on the main account.

Use

  • Islamic Account spot trading
  • DCA and Spot Grid bots

Avoid

  • Margin, futures, options
  • Crypto loans, fixed-yield Earn
More details

Spot trading on Bybit settles immediately and in full, which meets the conditions of a valid exchange (AAOIFI Shariah Standard 1 and Standard 20: immediate delivery, no deferred leg). The main account also offers margin, perpetual and dated futures, options, copy trading of derivatives, crypto loans and fixed-yield Earn products; margin and loans involve interest (riba), futures and options are undelivered contracts with excessive uncertainty (gharar), and fixed-yield savings are riba, so all of these should be avoided. Bybit announced its Islamic Account in September 2024. It is a sub-account certified by ZICO Shariah Advisory Services and CryptoHalal and opened under a Wakalah (agency) agreement; Bybit says it removes all forms of interest (riba). It allows only spot trading (limited to 75 selected tokens) and a DCA bot and Spot Grid bot (limited to 19 selected tokens). Fees are the same as on the main account. This makes Bybit one of the few large exchanges with a certified halal trading channel, although the token list is narrow and each coin should still be checked on Liberandum. Reliability is good (7.1/10). Bybit publishes monthly proof of reserves verified by Hacken, with in-scope reserve ratios at or above 100%. Bybit EU GmbH holds a MiCA CASP authorisation from Austria's FMA (28 May 2025), and Bybit received the first full Virtual Asset Platform Operator licence from the UAE SCA (October 2025), in addition to a provisional VARA licence. On 21 February 2025 about USD 1.5 billion in ETH was stolen from a Bybit cold wallet in a DPRK-attributed attack; within days Bybit closed the ETH gap through loans, deposits and purchases and returned to 1:1 backing of client assets. Malaysia's Securities Commission ordered Bybit to stop serving Malaysia in December 2024, and India's FIU fined it about USD 1 million in 2025. Availability: Bybit's restricted list includes the US, Canada, Singapore and Uzbekistan, and Bybit has disabled its platform for Malaysia. UAE users outside Dubai can use the SCA-licensed Bybit UAE entity; EEA users are served by Bybit EU.

Islamic account

Bybit Islamic Account is a Shariah-certified sub-account announced in September 2024. It is interest-free and allows only spot trading on 75 selected tokens plus a DCA bot and a Spot Grid bot on 19 selected tokens. It was developed with ZICO Shariah Advisory Services and CryptoHalal, which certify it. Fees match the main account.

  • Bybit Islamic Account

Interest-free sub-account for Muslim users, opened from the Islamic Account page after identity verification. Supports spot trading (75 selected tokens), a DCA bot and a Spot Grid bot (19 selected tokens), with the same trading fees as the main account. Funds move in and out only via the main account.

Structure · Certified by ZICO Shariah Advisory Services Sdn. Bhd. and CryptoHalal. The user accepts a Wakalah (agency) agreement and a supplemental agreement when opening it. Bybit states it removes all forms of interest (riba). Only spot trading and the two spot bots on the selected tokens are available; margin, derivatives, loans and Earn products are not offered in the sub-account.

Partial token screening

Bybit applies Shariah screening only inside the Islamic Account: spot trading there is limited to 75 tokens and the bots to 19 tokens selected with its Shariah advisers. The main catalogue is not Shariah-screened, so coins bought outside the Islamic Account must be checked separately.

Step by step

How to trade halal on Bybit

  1. Open an account and pass KYC

Register on bybit.com or the Bybit app and complete identity verification (ID and selfie). UAE residents outside Dubai can use Bybit UAE and EEA residents Bybit EU; the Islamic Account is offered on the global platform, except in restricted countries.

  2. Open the Islamic Account

Go to the Islamic Account page (Shariah Compliant), choose to create the account, accept the Wakalah Agreement and Supplemental Agreement, and set the sub-account nickname.

  3. Deposit and transfer funds

Deposit crypto via Assets > Deposit or buy with fiat on the main account, then use Transfer with the Main Account as sender and the Islamic Account as receiver. Do not park funds in Earn, Savings or other interest-paying products.

  4. Trade spot inside the Islamic Account

Use Spot trading, or the DCA and Spot Grid bots, within the Islamic Account. Trades settle immediately in full and only selected tokens are offered; still check each coin's status on Liberandum before buying.

  5. Avoid prohibited products on the main account

Do not use Derivatives (perpetuals, futures, options), Margin trading, Copy Trading of derivatives, leveraged tokens, Loans or fixed-yield Earn on the main account. These involve interest, undelivered contracts or excessive uncertainty.

  6. Withdraw to self-custody

For long-term holding, transfer back to the main account and use Assets > Withdraw to a wallet you control. Enable 2FA, passkeys, Fund Password and a withdrawal address whitelist.

Reliability in detail

Overall 7.1 of 10

  • Proof of reserves

    9.0

Monthly proof of reserves with Merkle-tree user verification, independently verified by Hacken; for example the 13th report (August 2024 snapshot) showed BTC 100%, ETH 102%, USDT 107% and USDC 155%. Hacken's work is a point-in-time attestation, not a full financial audit.

  • Licences

    8.0

MiCA CASP authorisation for Bybit EU GmbH from Austria's FMA (28 May 2025); first full Virtual Asset Platform Operator licence from the UAE SCA (October 2025) plus a provisional VARA licence; FIU-IND registration in India (February 2025). No US or Singapore licence.

  • Incident history

    7.0

On 21 February 2025 about USD 1.5 billion in ETH was stolen from a cold wallet (DPRK-attributed); by 24 February Bybit had closed the ETH gap through loans, deposits and purchases and returned to 1:1 backing. Malaysia's SC ordered Bybit out of Malaysia in December 2024; India's FIU fined it about USD 1 million in 2025.

  • Segregation of funds

    5.0

The MiCA-authorised Bybit EU entity must segregate client crypto-assets by law. For the global platform, 1:1 backing is shown through proof of reserves, but no independent audit confirming legal segregation of client assets was found.

  • Insurance fund

    5.0

Bybit maintains an insurance fund for derivatives liquidation deficits, but it does not protect spot balances or guarantee hack reimbursement; the February 2025 losses were covered by bridge loans and purchases rather than a disclosed protection fund.

  • Security practices

    6.0

Cold storage with multi-signature; 2FA, passkeys, Fund Password and withdrawal whitelists. ISO/IEC 27001 certification (2023) is reported by secondary sources only. The February 2025 breach exploited the cold-wallet multi-signature signing flow, showing gaps in practice.

Fees

Spot trading, deposits and withdrawals
